- Description
We are looking for an experienced Java Software Engineer specialising in API design and integration to machine learning platforms. The role focuses on building scalable Spring Boot microservices that expose and consume APIs, integrating with internal and external ML services, and delivering cloud-native solutions on AWS.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop scalable RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
- Integrate applications with external machine learning platforms and APIs.
- Implement secure, reliable and observable cloud-based services.
- Apply API development best practices, including versioning, documentation and governance.
- Identify and resolve architectural and system integration challenges.
- Translate business and machine learning requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Product teams and other technical stakeholders.
- Participate in code reviews, testing and quality assurance processes.
- Deliver solutions throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile/SCRUM environments.
- Identify, prioritise and escalate technical and project risks.
- Support and improve development, testing and production environments.
- Contribute to technical best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Java in production environments.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot and RESTful API development.
- Proven experience designing and developing microservices-based architectures.
- Practical experience with AWS cloud services and cloud-native development.
- Experience integrating with machine learning APIs or platforms.
- Experience with Docker/containerisation.
- Experience working within Agile/SCRUM and SDLC methodologies.
- Strong understanding of secure, scalable and maintainable software development practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Advantageous:
- AWS certification, such as AWS Developer Associate.
- Experience with CI/CD, DevOps and Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging technologies such as Kafka or AWS SQS/SNS.
- Experience with Kubernetes/AWS EKS.
- Experience with both NoSQL and relational databases (RDBMS).
- Experience in retail or another customer-facing commercial environment.
